In our American Literature class we began to discuss the equity of education as it pertained to various literatures such as Hidden Curriculum by Jean Anyon and Always Running by Luis Rodriguez. These writings and various sources have shown that there is not equity in education as many may have been previously believed to be true. This project is based upon the extensive research on the educational achievement of students in Chicago Public Schools. Its creation was necessary to educate and inform others of the factors that affect educational achievements (graduation rates). Our research brought us to question what circumstances contributed to the educational achievement (graduation rates) gap in CPS ,and what can be done to eliminate the educational achievement (graduation rates) gap. We found that the element of culture or race is often used as the justification of low achievement in Chicago Public Schools ,when in fact it is a combination of factors such as geographic location, socioeconomics, curriculum , and student expectations. These four factors are what define the educational achievement gap in Chicago Public Schools.
